Brazil Tourism Hits New Record

Brazil hit the mark of 6 million foreign tourists in 2013 – thus surpassing the 5 million mark first reached in 2005 – when the first international flight arrived at Galeão International Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, on Thursday morning, December 5. The World Youth Day (WYD) and the Confederations Cup were two events that helped Brazil break this record.

Embratur (Brazilian Institute of Tourism) has launched a special campaign to celebrate the achievement. Screens in Galeão Airport’s arrivals and baggage claim areas identified the tourist that would be welcomed with gifts such as typical Brazilian sweets and the map of Rio de Janeiro. Even a special jingle was written for the initiative. The event was recorded and the promotional video will be posted on the internet.
